Child Support Program

Program Profile

Objectives

  • promote the investment in human capital for poverty reduction through
    • provision of additional resources to larger and poor families with children and
    • progress towards the achievement of Universal Primary Education

Conditionalities

  • education: school attendance of at least 80% of classes and passing the final examination

Transfer size

  • US$3.50 per month for one child or US$6 if they have two or more children of school age enrolled and attending school

Frequency of transfer

  • monthly

Target population

  • chronically and extremely poor families with children aged 5-12 years (initially all existing beneficiaries of Food Support Program with at least one child of primary school age)
Covered population
  • in pilot phase 10% of Food Support Program beneficiary families (125,000 households)
Annual budget
  • US$7 million for fiscal year 2005-2006 for the pilot
Implementing agency
  • Pakistan Bait-u-Mal (under Ministry of Social Welfare and Special Education)
