Sponsored by ARD, ETW, HD, and PREM, with the collaboration of DEC and the Regions. This is a multi-sectoral workshop to provide a forum for discussing the main causes of the food and energy price increase and the broad policy options available including macro and trade, agricultural production and social programs. The workshop will provide information on the ongoing work done in different regions and networks (DEC, PREM, ARD, SD), as well as planned activities under the GFRP (Global Food Crisis Response Program). The target audience for this workshop is staff from the regions and central units, who has been involved in the topic. In particular the workshop will provide information on: The magnitude and cause of the problems, and ongoing analysis of those. The Bank responses, including the GFRP. Guidance for policy responses from each sector. Specific country situation and responses - how countries are finding their way through imperfect policy options.
