In recent years there has been growing attention concerning the use of cash and conditional cash transfer programs as part of broader poverty reduction strategies. Since the late 1990’s Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) programs have spread rapidly. While "first generation" CCT programs originated in Brazil and Mexico, CCT programs now be found across a wide range of countries and contexts.
