From June 14-18, 2010, over 220 delegates gathered for the Social Protection South-South Learning Forum on Making Public Works Work. The Learning Forum attracted delegates from 40 low- and middle-income countries from across the globe. During the week delegates shared first hand country experiences, including a field trip of local public works projects implemented through the Tanzania Social Action Fund (TASAF).
The objectives of the Learning Forum were:
To share emerging experiences amongst professional staff from client countries and their Bank counterparts on “how to” aspects of public works programs in low income countries;
To lay the ground for the formation of a “community of practice” that would continue sharing knowledge and expertise through informal and facilitated mechanisms;
To catalyze improved understanding and know-how on the role of public work programs as part national safety net and social protection agendas.
We thank all of the participants for making the Learning Forum an incredible success!
