Laura Tlaiye

Sector Manager, Environment Department, World Bank

Laura Tlaiye is the Sector Manager of the Environment Department of the World Bank Group.  Together with the Director, Warren Evans, she oversees the World Bank’s efforts to mainstream the environmental agenda in all of the institutions’ policies and programs.  The Environment Department coordinates across the regional environment units and provides leadership to global programs.

Ms. Tlaiye joined the Bank in 1992 as an Environmental Specialist in the Latin America and Caribbean Region.  Before accepting her most recent position, she held the position, she held the position of Sector Manager at the World Bank Institute (WBI) and was previously Sector Leader for the Southern Cone of Latin America in charge of the work program, country dialogue, and staff teams for Argentina, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay. 

Before joining the Bank she worked for several years in the consulting industry dealing with environmental policy analysis for U.S. and international clients.  Ms. Tlaiye holds a Master’s in Public and Private Management from Yale University, and her expertise is in pollution management with emphasis in air pollution and waste and wastewater management issues.
