The World Bank is organized an introductory training course on the Highway Development and Management Model (HDM-4) and the Roads Economic Decision Model (RED) for World Bank staff and external participants. The three-day hands-on training course took place from January 9 to 11, 2008, at the World Bank premises in Washington DC and targeted professionals with or without previous experience with the models.

The course was delivered by World Bank staff and presented the basic principles of economic evaluation of road works using the HDM-4 and RED methodology, case studies for project economic evaluation and network planning and programming under budgetary constraints, an overview of the HDM-4 road deterioration and road user costs models, and the software tools: HDM-4 and RED. The HDM-4 model is suited for the economic evaluation of road works on paved roads and was covered on January 9 and 10. The RED model is suited for the economic evaluation of road works on unpaved roads and was covered on January 11.
