Realistic aspirations in rural transport planning: Politicians, planners, rural people and some donor staff often aspire to modern motorized transport on good roads but if these are unaffordable in the short to medium term then alternative options (including intermediate means of transport) need to be considered.
Appropriate Infrastructure Interventions: What type of rural infrastructure is required to genuinely meet the needs of the rural poor? Safety and regulation in rural transport: How can we effectively regulate for and stimulate self-regulation for pro-poor routes, consolidation of loads, mixed passenger and freight transport and affordable safety measures?
Use of relevant and reliable indicators The rural Access Indicator is not responsive to many interventions. We need to consider the most appropriate indicators for accessibility and rural transport.
