DFID’s long and close association with the World Bank’s research and dissemination activities in the transport sector entered a new phase with a new collaborative program, the Transport Research Support Program, in support of applied transport research. The Transport Research Support Program runs for three years until the first half of 2012, and comprises four components:
- "Discrete knowledge products" which get existing knowledge on transport and social responsibility into use in the transport sector.
- "Flagship knowledge products" to generate new knowledge and which support institutional activities that stimulate mainstreaming of new approaches.
- Improving the Bank's advice to governments dealing with the economic downturn
- Enabling the Bank to maximize the contribution of transport to long-term sustainable growth.
