SPEAKERS: Marc Shotten, Global Road Safety Facility, World Bank Dr. Kavi Bhalla, Research Scientist, Department of Global Health and Population, Harvard School of Public Health
DESCRIPTION: The discussion updates participants about the upcoming UN Decade of Action in Road Safety launch plans and the world of the Global Road Safety Facility, housed at the World Bank. Dr Kavi Bhalla describes ongoing research at Harvard University on improving estimates of the incidence of road traffic injuries in information poor settings. The talk focuses on work done in two projects funded by the World Bank Global Road Safety Facility. The first project provides a framework for estimating the public health burden of road traffic injuries at the national level and implements the methods in 18 countries. The second project extends these methods to the most information-poor settings of Africa. This research will form the basis of the road traffic injury estimates generated as part of the ongoing revision of Global Burden of Disease (GBD-2010) study. For more information about these projects, please visit www.globalburdenofinjuries.org
SPEAKERS: Kavi Bhalla is a Research Scientist in the Department of Global Health and Population at the Harvard School of Public Health. He co-leads the Injury Expert Group of the current revision of the Global Burden of Disease (GBD-2010) study.
