Gender and Transport

Women and men have different travel and transport needs and face different constraints in travel and transport. These different constraints need to be tackled at the policy, program and project levels where some promising examples have been identified.  Linkages with other sectors are being strengthened so that transport can contribute to the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) in areas such as poverty reduction, education, gender equality, maternal and child health, HIV/AIDS and the environment.
