The World Bank carries out projects and provides a wide variety of analytical and advisory services to help meet the development needs of individual countries and the international community.
World Bank projects are classified by themes as well as sectors; Urban Development is considered a theme in the Bank's classification. Key information about themes includes:
- a theme represents a targeted outcome of a project (not an economic activity)
- a project may be classified into up to five themes
- older projects are not mapped to themes
- some themes were formerly sectors (for example, Urban Development)
