Urban Learning Week and Urban Forum 2006

Introduction to Urban Learning Week and Urban Forum 2006

The Urban Learning Week and Urban Forum is an annual internal event (by invitation only) bringing together the World Bank network staff to review the contribution of the sector to the corporate agenda. It is also a learning activity that provides Bank staff with the opportunity to share and update their knowledge of the sector. The events are open to a narrow audience of urban and development practitioners, including clients and development partners, who can contribute their wealth of experience and development perspective to enrich the debate.

This year’s Urban Forum, The Challenges of an Urbanizing World, March 20-21, focused on the linkages between urban development and the growth and poverty agendas. The proceedings included contributions from President Paul Wolfowitz, Vice-Presidents of the Bank, live video-conference participation of the Deputy Mayor of London, and interactive panel conversations focusing on growth strategies and the political economy of urban development. The initial findings from a 120-city study on the Spatial Dynamics of Urban Expansion were also shared at the Forum.
