Organizations and Knowledge Sources  

The World Health Organization (WHO) works on aspects of water, sanitation and hygiene and their relationship to human health.   Relevant topics in this Web Site include Water Supply and Sanitation monitoring, Sanitation and Hygiene development and Wastewater use.  This website offers links to statistics, facts, figures, databases and training materials. Also, The healthcare waste working group from the WHO operates and maintains a database for selecting appropriate technical options for managing healthcare waste.  This database can be accessed at http://www.healthcarewaste.org/ along with other information on healthcare waste management.

The WHO and UNICEF Joint Monitoring Program for Water Supply and Sanitation (JMP) keep a data base containing not only water supply and sanitation coverage estimates but also all the data from household surveys (MICS, DHS, Censuses, etc) which were considered for these estimates. This database is not yet fully operational online but the main outputs of the base can be seen at http://www.wssinfo.org/
