The World Bank's Water Resources Sector Strategy (pdf) was unanimously endorsed by the World Bank's Board of Executive Directors in February 2003. Before that time, extensive consultations had taken place at the country, regional and global level. All of the materials from those consultations were posted at the time on the World Bank's external web site. Â Kickoff Workshops & Roundtables In mid-1999 the World Bank began developing its new Water Resources Sector Strategy. For this purpose several workshops and seminars were organized to engage a broad range of stakeholders. Materials from these workshops can be found here (zip).
Regional and country consultationsIn preparing the Sector Strategy, a series of consultations were carried out with countries in each one of the World Bank's regions was carried out. Participants, both World Bank staff and non-World Bank water experts, were organized in working groups to discuss regional water resources-related topics from a regional and country perspective. Select a link for documentation and proceedings originating from each of these consultations:  Back to Top An important aspect in the preparation of the Sector Strategy was the development of specific, in-depth studies regarding the status of water resources policies and the World Bank's water-related projects in representative countries. These studies were discussed with multi-stakeholder groups during an initial brainstorming phase in each country. Additionally, a second and final round of consultation meetings came to an end on May, 2002. This included returning to the same groups who were consulted earlier: Public consultation Following that round of consultations, a draft of the Strategy was made available for public consultation on this web site in April 2002. During this stage, consultations were also held in the United States and Europe with representatives of donor governments, Non-Governmental Organizations and the private sector. An independent facilitator managed these consultations and a report on the external views (pdf) plus annexes (zip) elicited by the consultations is available on this site. |
