World Bank at Water Expo Zaragoza 2008 |
The Government of Spain recently launched Expo Zaragoza 2008 - an international exhibition fully dedicated to water and sustainable development. The self-proclaimed “biggest water festival on earth”, running between June 14 - September 14, is expected to attract 85,000 people daily from governments, academia, civil society and the private sector. A key component of the Expo is The Water Tribune, which has been created to stimulate reflection, debate and a search for solutions in relation to water and sustainability. It will bring the most relevant international water professionals together to discuss sustainable initiatives and solutions on water management. The Water Tribune is organized in nine thematic weeks, and is expected to attract about 700 specialists per day throughout the duration of the Expo (close to 30,000 participants). The Government of Spain has requested the World Bank contribute technical expertise and content to the Tribune through the World Bank Institute and the Water Anchor. About forty Bank staff and clients will participate as speakers and panelists in approximately one third of the sessions of the Expo over nine weeks.
