Groundwater in Rural Development

Welcome to the website on Groundwater in Rural Development, prepared as a joint venture between the World Bank, the UK Department for International Development (DFID) and the British Geological Survey. The website aims to help those tasked with the development and management of rural groundwater. It is designed to complement the Bank's Technical Paper No. 463 by providing background briefings and additional resources on rural groundwater development topics.

Natural controls of climate, landform or geology can limit the size of groundwater resources, while rising rural demand subjects aquifers to competing demands that need to be prioritized. The materials and links provided in this resource area have been assembled to help village water supply and agricultural water resource planners develop rural groundwater in a sustainable way.
