 | Gaza: The Water and Sanitation Project aims to improve the provision of adequate water and wastewater services in Gaza, and functionally establish the Coastal Municipalities Water Utility (CMWU) as an autonomous well-run modem utility. In addition, the project has a secondary objective to strengthen the Palestinian Water Authority's (PWA) capacity to assume sector regulatory functions. The Feature Story on Management Contract in Gaza emphasizes that better water supply and sanitation services are provided for the population of Gaza. | | Colombia: The objectives of the Water Sector Reform Assistance Project are to support water sector reform by facilitating private sector participation in the management, and operation of water utilities, creating an improved environment for sustainable utilities, and, providing financial support to ensure their viability. The Feature Story titled Local Solutions Improve Water Supply and Sanitation Services in Colombia highlights that the government has been a pioneer in adopting sound water sector policies, and has made substantial progress in the expansion of water supply and sanitation. | | Cote d’Ivoire: The Second Water Supply Project supported the government to finance about 10,000 house connections to provide service for poor segments of the population under the "social connection" program. This was done through SODECI, a private sector enterprise which had been responsible for operation and maintenance of all urban water systems since 1971. In SODECI’s contract revenues are linked to the amount of water sold, so there is an incentive for the operator to add and serve new customers. |
