External Events

The World Bank takes part in events organized by other internation organizations for a variety of reasons: raising water issues profile, generating consensus on policy, exchange knowledge and experience, networking, capacity and trust building. Please find below a list of recent events in which World Bank staff participated including their contribution to the event.

Participants representing 70 water utilities from 30 countries in Africa met in Johannesburg in April 2007 to deliberate on the operationalization of an 'Africa Water Operators Partnership' (AWOP).

 bulletThe  World Bank participated in the Fourth World Water Forum which was hosted in March 2006 in Mexico City.  
 bulletA Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Donors Conference for Africa was organized by the African Development Bank and the Government of France in April 2005.  
 bulletCommission on Sustainable Development, Session 13. CSD-13 was held in April 2005 in New York City to decide on policies and practical measures to accelerate progress towards achieving the Johannesburg Plan of Implementation targets and commitments on water, sanitation and human settlements.  
 bulletThird World Water Forum was held on March 2003 in Kyoto, Japan. The  World Bank participated in the Forum in a number of ways.  
 bulletIn "WaterDome" stakeholders from public and private organisations in water sector launched and exhibited water-related activities, policies, initiatives, technologies and products.  The World Bank team presented the bank's work and achievements. 28 August - 3 September, 2002. Johannesburg, South Africa.
