The WTO and the Doha Development Agenda

Sponsor: Poverty Reduction and Economic Management Network

This 1.5 day training course is primarily targeted at World Bank staff whose work is affected by developments at the World Trade Organization (WTO), especially through the ongoing round of multilateral trade negotiations—the Doha Development Agenda (DDA).  As an introduction, the course will offer a review of the main characteristics of the multilateral trading system governed by the WTO.  The course will then move to current WTO issues, including the phase-out of textiles quotas as of January 1, 2005 and the state of play in the main negotiating areas of the DDA (agriculture, non-agricultural market access, services, intellectual property).  Basic familiarity with the WTO system would be desirable, but not essential, for participation in this course.
