The Trade Department’s training and capacity building serves two constituencies: Banks staff and stake holders and decision makers in developing countries. Internal trade-related learning and capacity building is designed to provide staff access to technical tools, lessons of experience, and rigorous research and learning opportunities that would enable them to mainstream trade in country assistance strategies and strengthen staff’s understanding of the role of trade as an engine for sustainable growth and poverty reduction. External training and capacity building is carried out by the World Bank Institute (WBI). The WBI Trade Learning Program is designed to enhance the capacity of developing countries to put in place sound national trade policies and institutions that would enable them to take advantage of the world trading system and to help them participate effectively in multilateral and regional trade arrangements and negotiations.
