Course description: Lack of adequate financial /credit markets to finance international transactions is one of the major obstacles to sustainable export expansion in developing countries. This course will help better understand the strentghs and limitations of available trade financing, insurance and guarantee instruments, including via practical exercises, as well as the possible proactive role a government can play in trade finance. This year's course will also address the implications for trade of the global financial and credit crisis. The course will also cover trade logistics and customs modernization.

Target audience: Trade policymakers, their advisors, other government officials in economic and relevant sectoral ministries and agencies, academic trade researchers and trainers, and private sector representatives involved in export promotion and in shaping the domestic and/or international trade agenda. The course may also be of interest to operational Bank staff, as well as staff of various donor agencies.
