Special PREM Week Session: “Trade and Competitiveness in the Post-Crisis Environment: Structural Changes in Trade and the Role of Competitiveness”
Description: As part of the PREM Week learning events, the Export Competitiveness Thematic Group is organizing a special session of its seminar series, which will focus on trade and competitiveness in the post crisis environment. One year on from the depth of the crisis, the session will discuss structural changes to trade patterns that started well before the crisis and are likely to continue well beyond it. It will explore how the crisis may have altered or accelerated the pace of some of these changes, including the growth of South-South trade. The seminar will then aim to discuss the implications of these changes on export competitiveness for developing countries.
Description: This course, organized by the Export Competitiveness Thematic Group as part of the PREM Week learning events, explores the changing pattern of trade before, during, and after the crisis. It particularly explores:
- the emergence of south-south trade;
- the impact of the crisis on the patterns of global supply chains, including the global production networks and integrated global value chains; and
- the implications of these changes for developing countries’ competitiveness.
