The World Bank Group (WBG) supports trade as a platform to sustainable growth and development. Through financial and technical assistance, we support developing countries in improving their global competitiveness. Our trade program aims to promote a global trading system that is more supportive of development; integrate trade competitiveness into countries’ development strategies; and encourage trade policy and trade facilitation reforms through effective aid for trade programs.
The International Trade Department (PRMTR) provides trade policy expertise and advisory services across the WBG. Our role and responsibilities include (i) developing knowledge products with an operational perspective; (ii) providing support to WBG country/regional teams in their trade programs; (iii) forging effective partnerships to advance a pro-development trade agenda, (iv) disseminating knowledge on trade through training and learning activities; and (v) briefing Senior Management on relevant trade issues. In addition, PRMTR raises and manages trust funds (such as the Trade Facilitation Facility and the Multi-Donor Trust Fund for Trade and Development) that support an array of WBG activities in developing countries worldwide.
