Middle East & North Africa Regional Programs

The Middle East and North Africa (MNA) Region Knowledge Sharing team is located within the Operations and Core Services Department. The Knowledge Coordinator is one of 8 advisers in the region (the others are Quality, Procurement, Financial Management, Partnerships, Learning, Environment and IT). The team is part of the extended Resource Management team and work very closely with the IT team, especially on the GDLN, the DG, and operational support.

The basic principles which guide the MNA regional Knowledge Sharing activities are the following:

  • Focusing on alignment with regional and corporate priorities and mandates
  • Undertaking activities that have clear buy-in from our country and sector units
  • Ensuring that operational linkages play a key role in our activities and focus on embedding KS activities into existing programs/projects.

ACTIVITIES

MENA Web Development & Support

  • Manage the regional portal, and the regional sites in Arabic and French, and will start supporting maintenance of the corporate Arabic site as of October 2003.
  • Global Development Learning Network (GDLN) - Development of Regional Distance Learning Centers (DLCs) and a regional network linking.
  • Development Gateway - Support to Country Gateways (Lebanon, Morocco, and WBG) and the DGmarket (Egypt and Kuwait) and developing an Arabic site on e-government.
  • AskMNA - Regional helpdesk on development issues, providing a window in French and developing one in Arabic in partnership with the Islamic Development Bank

KS Corporate Advisory Activities
Corporate Coordination on KS issues, supporting the region in the context of the Knowledge Steering Group, Bank Advisory Services Group, GDLN, and Development Gateway activities as well as coordinating with KS teams in the networks and regions.

KS Regional Advisory Activities
Reviewing all regional Economic and Sector Work (ESW) and project documents to ensure full utilization of regional and corporate K resources. Starting in FY 04, mandate to ensure that all Country Assistance Strategy Reports (CASs) include a section on support from KS and IT services.

Operational Support (FY04)
Focused on Knowledge Management (KM)capabilities in counterpart agencies. Developing a KM capability within the CDR (Lebanon), support to knowledge economy work in Jordan and Lebanon, support to KM within the Saudi Regulatory Authority,
