    Burkina Faso
    WBI's mission in Burkina Faso is focused on lending its support through targeted programs in the areas of private sector; rural development; social protection; and media.

    In Madagascar, the WBI program focuses on Trade, Education, Social Protection and Public Private Partnership in Infrastructure.

    Burundi
    WBI support to Burundi for the next few years will be concentrated in two main areas: Leadership strengthening, and Anti-corruption and Governance Diagnostics.

     Malawi
    WBI's program will focus on strengthening anti-corruption initiatives, leadership development, and combating HIV/AIDS.
    Chad
    WBI currently does not have any on-going projects in Chad.
     Mozambique
    The key areas for WBI support are envisaged as: (i) strengthening public-private sector partnerships for infrastructure development; (ii) advancing the decentralization process; (iii) improving human resource capacity by controlling the spread of HIV and supporting education sector reforms.
    Ethiopia
    WBI assistance for the next few years will focus on three main areas: Parliamentary strengthening, Media strengthening, and mobilizing the Diaspora to make professional contributions to the provision of health and education services.
     Nigeria
    WBI has assumed a leadership role within the extended country team to provide support to the government in strengthening the Media, Parliament, Knowledge Management and Science and Technology.

    Ghana
    WBI is helping the government to strengthen its oversight / accountability institutions, and remove constraints to private sector development.

     Senegal
    WBI has embarked on capacity building interventions to strengthen government’s ability to regulate infrastructure, and improve public-private participation; and institutional strengthen for the National Assembly to play a role in analyzing the national budget.
    Kenya
    WBI is providing support to the government to strengthen its governance and accountability mechanisms thorough programs to strengthen the Media, Parliament and the Judiciary.
     South Africa
    WBI’s program in South Africa is proposed against the backdrop of the Government’s specific request for capacity building support from WBI, a largely non-lending Bank program, and South Africa’s vision of itself as a resource for SADC-wide capacity building and South-South facilitated development.
    Liberia
    WBI support to Liberia for the next few years will be concentrated in three areas: Leadership Capacity Building for peaceful co-existence, Anti-Corruption and Governance Diagnostics, and support to the ongoing efforts to construct and operate a GDLN Distance Learning Center.

    Indonesia
    The WBI program for FY06 was designed as an extension of FY05 activities but with sharper focus on the two program objectives: (i) providing services to the poor, and (ii) improved investment climate.

     Thailand
    Every year WBI delivers 15-20 activities in Thailand, reaching up to 1,000 participants. This includes regional activities as Bangkok often is used as a hub for EAP wide events as well as country specific workshops.
    Lao PDR
    WBI’s program objective for the Lao PDR program is capacity building for improved governance.

     Vietnam
    WBI’s country focus program supports the third Country Poverty Reduction and Growth Strategy (CPRGS) and CAS objective, i.e. promoting a modern public administration and the supporting legal and governance system.

    CIS Countries
    Kazakhstan
    Kazakhstan has become a new WBI focus country in FY06 and WBI activities agreed and endorsed by Country Manager and Unit included one regular activity and one standby: (i) Municipal management and (ii) Corporate social responsibilities (standby).
     Tajikistan
    For FY07, WBI will focus on: (i) a multi-year capacity building program for civil servants and public expenditure management program; (ii) private sector development and improving business environment in Tajikistan, and; (iii)addressing capacity development and governance challenges through leadership programs.
    Kyrgyz Republic
    The WBI program includes three activities agreed with the Country Unit and one activity requested by the Region in a middle of fiscal year: (i) Health flagship, (ii) Community driven development and (iii) Intergovernmental finance/Local government development.
     Ukraine
    For FY07, the WBI programme in Ukraine focuses on two main topics: (i) capacity development support for removing barriers to economic growth, and; (ii) public financial management and accountability.
    Russian Federation
    WBI will contribute to the Bank’s overall efforts in this changing environment with a comprehensive capacity building program integrated in the main Country Partnership Strategy pillars.
     Uzbekistan
    WBI programs are aligned with the Government’s program through three main pillars: (i) Sustaining high rates of economic growth; (ii) Strengthening human development and social protection; (iii) Improving the environment through the more efficient use of natural resources.
    Non-CIS Countries
    Bosnia and Herzegovina
    WBI's program in Bosnia and Herzegovina is deliberately targeted to a few key sectors (such as anti-corruption, strengthening institutions and public expenditure management).
     Turkey
    WBI’s program for Turkey is designed as a multi-year intervention focusing on improving capacity at the institutional and individual levels.
    Romania
    WBI’s program for Romania covering FY07-09 includes three components: (i) public-private partnership in highways, (ii) fiscal management/decentralization, and (iii) innovation support services to SMEs to improve their business sustainability and competitiveness.

    Argentina
    Argentina is one of WBI's new Focus Countries in Latin America. WBI's program for FY07 includes activities in the areas of Social Assistance Programs, Environmental Economics/Policy, and Governance/Anti-Corruption.
     Dominican Republic
    WBI has added the Dominican Republic to its list of focus countries. FY07 programs will focus in the areas of children and youth, strengthening Access to Information Legislation for Transparency and Social Accountability, and open and Participatory Government.

    Bolivia
    New priorities for the Bank and for WBI with regards to Bolivia will be discussed during April consultations with members of president Evo Morales's administration. WBI’s role for FY07 is expected to be a continuation of the just-in-time policy support provided this year to the government and civil institutions in preparing “best practice” notes and organizing consensus building dialogues on key policy issues.

     Guatemala
    WBI is involved in a range of sectors/themes in Guatemala, including secondary education, judicial reform, land policy and administration, corporate social responsibility, and social inclusion.

    Brazil
    Brazil is WBI’s largest program in the LCR. Since the year 2000, over 18,000 Brazilians have participated in WBI offerings. WBI was closely involved in preparation of the Brazil CAS focusing on how to best address capacity development needs at both country and project level.  Accordingly, WBI's program for Brazil includes work under all four of the CAS pillars (equity, sustainability, competitiveness, economic/governance foundations).

     Mexico
    Key capacity development objectives pursued by WBI in Mexico include strengthening the institutional capacity of sub-national (particularly municipal) governments; improving transparency, voice and accountability; and fostering greater public-private cooperation in meeting development objectives.

    Egypt
    Areas of focus for WBI support include private sector reforms for better governance; service delivery in Health and Education; poverty assessment, and urban management.
     Morocco
    WBI will provide targeted support in areas of water management as related to regulatory issues and water resource management policy; public sector reform; pension reform; and urban management within the context of preparing the City Development Strategy.
    Iran
    To enhance their institutional and organizational capacity for effective program implementation, WBI will work jointly with the Region in implementing an IDF grant that will launch a training of trainers program in this area.
     Yemen
    WBI programs in Yemen focus in the areas of human capital development through strengthening education and health sector; capacity building for local administration; finance program in Anti-Money Laundering; and water resources management.
    Lebanon
    The WBI's FY07 programme focuses on the following major themes: improving the effectiveness of public-private partnerships, the creation of a comprehensive social protection network, and disseminating 'best practices' in trade policy (standby).
