| Â | The JJ/WBGSP awards scholarships for graduate studies to well-qualified mid-career professionals, who are then expected to apply and to disseminate the newly acquired knowledge and skills in promoting the socioeconomic development of their own and other developing countries. Scholars study in challenging socio-economic development themes, including: - Economics & globalization, public policy and management;
- Sustainable development, including natural resource and environmental managements;
- Health, population, and education;
- Agriculture and rural development;
- Urban and regional planning, and infrastructure; and
- Information systems and technology.
Increasing numbers of scholars are studying in host Europe and developing countries higher education institutions; while North America, especially United States remains among the preferred host university destinations. Further outreach and capacity building was achieved through Partnership Programs with 11 partner universities where 968 scholars have studied. 97% of award recipients have completed their degrees.
Four out of every five scholars are experienced public servants; many have worked in high decision-making positions.
At the same time, the JJ/WBGSP shares the excitement of the graduating scholars, especially those who had to resign from their jobs in order to take the scholarships, about their future. In our attempt to support JJ/WBGSP graduating scholars, the program is posting their CVs on the JJ/WBGSP website. These CVs represent an indicator of how much knowledge and expertise they have. It is also the way - to acknowledge each other,
- to establish a community of practice, and
- to be able to exchange experience, ideas, and knowledge.
That will help scholars to confront challenges facing in the developing countries and will add to capacity building efforts in these countries. | J/WBGSP scholars who are about six months to finish their academic program and who seek jobs in their home country or in another developing country are advised to send their CV's to the Secretariat. The Secretariat will post them on the JJ/WBGSP website making them available to companies, corporations and organizations working in developing countries that need well-qualified professionals. |
