Global Information Technology Outsourcing in Turkey:
Potentials, Challenges, and Realities

As a consequence of the growth and diffusion of the internet, global software development or so called global information technology outsourcing is becoming increasingly popular among corporations as an economically and strategically attractive business model. Besides, global IT outsourcing innovation is cited as a new engine of growth and software industry is critical to economy of any developing country as a major contributor to transfer knowledge (know-how), balance the payments, job creation, productivity and economic growth. Hence, playing a role in this competitive IT trade can be a motivating vigour for economic growth and infrastructure development, particularly in developing countries like Turkey.

This paper integrates theoretical concepts with existing research on the phenomena to analyse the challenges and realities of Turkey in global context. An extensive survey was conducted to determine critically important issues for global IT outsourcing in Turkey. The research findings illustrate the potentials of Turkey and how highly skilled labour force can be used to compete with competitors like India and China.
