 | | Two weeks after the successful conference in Nairobi, the JJ/WBGSP held its Asian Regional Conference Hanoi, Vietnam, on May 26. Participants amounted to 70, including 24 alumni from Vietnam (there are total 84 Vietnamese alumni). |
With the opening remarks by Mr. Yoshio Okubo, Executive Director Representing Japan, World Bank, and Mr. Kabir Ahmed, this one day of extensive knowledge sharing commenced. At the conference, three JJ/WBGSP alumni from the Asia region were awarded by Mr. Yoshio Okuno for their outstanding papers. These were:
Also, distinguished development professionals shared their views of development in Vietnam and the rest of Asia: The Program was honored to have His Excellency Mr. Cao Duc Phat, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Vietnam, join the conference. Mr. Phat is one of JJ/WBGSP alumni who completed Master in Public Administration at Harvard University in the program year of 1993, and is very supportive to our Program.

Mr. Nguyen Ba Toan, the alumni representative in Vietnam, and currently Deputy Director General at International Cooperation Department in the Ministry of Finance in Vietnam, in his speech suggested a detailed plan on how to strengthen the alumni network in Vietnam and envisioned continuous and increasing liaison between the JJ/WBGSP and its alumni.
