The JJ/WBGSP is a valuable and important instrument for helping to share tomorrow's leaders. Its objective is to help create an international community of highly qualified professionals in economic and social development. Established in 1987 with generous funding from the Government of Japan, the JJ/WBGSP annually awards scholarships to individuals from the World Bank member countries to undertake studies at leading universities.
JJ/WBGSP scholars, most of them whom come from humble backgrounds, normally return to their home countries to become leaders in their fields. The JJ/WBGSP is the largest scholarships program managed by multilateral organization, and has sponsored 3,554 graduate students from the developing world.
