 Description

World Bank Institute Disaster Risk Management Program is organizing a session on City to City Networking and GFDRR South South Cooperation Program during the Asia Megacities Forum 2009. The forum is a joint initiative of Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) and the Earthquakes and Megacities Initiative (EMI). The Forum is an opportunity to review regional and global initiatives on urban disaster risk reduction (DRR). It is a venue for documenting, promoting and sharing the efforts and commitments made by local authorities in engaging in Urban DRR.

 

The Forum will address current issues of urban DRR by bringing multiple experiences and perspectives of international and regional organizations, consortiums, and public and private institutions.  It intends to serve as a platform for critical evaluation, strategic planning, knowledge sharing, and advocacy. It will also provide a venue for megacities to demonstrate knowledge of sound practices that other cities may validate, adapt, and apply in their own risk context.

 

The session organized by WBI Disaster Management Program side event on City to City Networking and GFDRR South-South Cooperation Program will focus on 1) potential in
GFDRR Cooperation Program for cities 2) Certification and the Global Training Agenda 3) the application of Disaster Management Master Plan 4) Technology for knowledge sharing such as cityriskpedia. It will be an interactive session to collect the participants’ inputs, discuss and synthesize their contribution and summarize them into specific recommendation and action plans.
