Distance Learning Programs

The WBI Urban and Local Government Team partners with various institutions from around the globe to design and implement Distance Learning initiatives for local governments on many topics.

For instance, the partnership with the Municipal Development Partnership for Eastern and Southern Africa  (MDP-ESA) has led to initiatives such as the  Africa Local Government Action Forum (ALGAF), and the  Africa Good Governance Program on the Radio Waves.

How to Use Distance Learning to Build Capacity in Municipal
Management
,
was held at the

Good Governance on the Radio builds on the great oral tradition of knowledge exchange in Africa—learning through active listening and sharing—and features eleven overall hours of instruction on Municipal Finance and Participatory Budgeting.

This latter topic, Participatory Budgeting, is also dealt with in our partnership with the  Centro Internacional de Gestion Urbana (CIGU), who hosts an e-learning course entitled Presupuesto Participativo.

A long-term partnership has also been established with the
Tecnológico de Monterrey (Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education), hosting several e-learning courses.

In 2008, The Government of India requested that WBI scale up their Urban Management Certification Program. In partnership with  ASCI and YASHADA, WBI has started to introduce e-learning approaches to enrich the learning environment, improve financial sustainability, and increase significantly the target capacity of these two initial programs.

These partnerships with institutions and centers of excellence from around the globe allow us to offer tailor-made, interactive learning products, where the participants take the driver's seat, learn relevant theoretical frameworks and case studies, and apply them to their own constituencies.
