Objectives

The overarching objectives of the WBI Education Program are to create within its client countries a national institutional capacity to:

  • Define needs;
  • Design, implement and evaluate policy on a sustainable basis that will lead to higher levels of quality, efficiency and equity of opportunities within the education system.

To reach these goals, the Program seeks to:

  • Prioritize capacity development of the education sectors to provide the knowledge and skills necessary for adopting sound strategies for the achievement of quality universal primary/basic education;  Assist countries with the expansion and reform of post-basic education provision in order to make it relevant, equitable and of good quality for the transition into a knowledge society;
  • Support the development of an effective system of governance by clarifying the role of government in the education sector, and by facilitating the development of private-public partnerships in the financing and provision of services;
  • Support the capacity building of national training institutions to enable countries and regions to adapt and customize learning programs to achieve sustainable increase in knowledge and skills in the areas needed to achieve the Millennium Development Goals/Education for All (MDGs/EFA).

Support strategies for reaching the poorest children and other vulnerable groups through effective education sector policies and Poverty Reduction Strategy Papers (PRSPs).
