The "Economics of Education for Policymakers" e-learning program helps education professionals make better use of economics tools when making complex decisions to improve quality, efficiency, equity, and sustainability of education systems. The principles learned—or refreshed--in these two courses, also provide a useful foundation for workshops and courses offered by the WBI Skills Development program. These courses are highly participatory and stimulate critical thinking and reflection as participants apply the skills and concepts to both the exercises in the course as well as their daily work in the education sector. Ongoing e-discussions offer great opportunities for participants to learn from each other as practitioners and from your facilitators. This e-learning program, offered in English, is divided into two six-week courses. Part I covers basic economic concepts, such as education as an investment, costs, efficiency, equality, and education finance. Part II covers slightly more advanced topics, including economic evaluation of education programs, demand, supply and equilibrium, production, and a final exercise that allows participants to apply all concepts learned in the program. While it is recommended that participants take Part I before they take Part II, this is not necessary. Course Fees and Certification The fee for each of these e-learning courses is $600. However, we are pleased to inform you that you will receive a discount if you register for both Part I and Part II together. The fee for both courses is $1,000 – a discount of $200. Once you are accepted to the course, you will receive a confirmation letter with our bank information where you will be able to deposit your course fees. You will also be sent a back up CD-ROM which contains all the course materials for your reference in case you have trouble connecting to the Internet. Finally, those participants who successfully complete the course will receive a certificate of completion from the World Bank Institute.
