The Sustainable Development Strategies learning activities, including courses, policy services and workshops, are delivered to selected World bank regions.  Institutional Strategies for Policymakers The Sustainable Development for Policymakers workshops and courses are built around the integration of environmental, social and economic issues related to growth and poverty reduction strategies. Training focuses on helping participants apply institutional concepts and sustainable development strategies to their personal or local situations. Case studies address these multi-dimensional concepts of sustainable development in a dynamic world. Transforming Institutions for a Sustainable Future For people to thrive, assets (physical, financial, human, social and environmental) must thrive. Because many assets are complementary and not substitutable, they need to be managed responsibly if development is to be sustainable. The objective is to help participants become aware of catalysts for changing destructive behavior patterns that have worked in different institutional settings - - villages, cities, national government and at the global level. This course discusses the following topics:
What is "sustainable development" in a dynamic world? Is the current development path "sustainable?" How can we promote institutions that find and implement sustainable solutions? What is the impact of asset distribution on the quality of institutions? How can a balance between traditional knowledge and modern technology help break vicious cycles of overty and degradation? What is the role of science and information?
