Knowledge Sharing events provide an ideal platform for participants/members from developing countries and developed countries along with international experts to collaborate on strategies, discuss ideas and build upon best practices in carbon market development, and to eventually support client countries of the World Bank to fully participate in the flexible mechanisms defined under the Kyoto Protocol. As part of its Market Development work component, the Carbon Finance-Assist team facilitates regional and global events - flagship events are regional Carbon Forums, and the annual Carbon Expo - http://www.carbonexpo.com/ - which is being co-organized in collaboration with the World Bank’s Carbon Finance Unit, the International Emissions Trading Association (IETA), and fair organizers Koelnmesse and Fira Barcelona. Featured: Carbon Expo 2009 | Carbon Expo 2009 – the 6th edition of the world’s largest knowledge sharing and business development platform for carbon market stakeholders – took, for the first time, place in Barcelona, Spain. The event took place in May, and was attended by about 3,000 participants and more than 250 exhibitors – the key messages included a firm endorsement of carbon markets as significant players in the Post-Kyoto climate regime under the condition to address deficiencies in the regulatory set up, in particular in terms of accelerating the approval process and more opportunities for programmatic approaches. “Cities and Climate Change” was the focal theme of the 2009 Expo edition – thus, key events focused on how cities can play a more prominent role in the area of climate change mitigation in the future. In order to foster the dialogue among stakeholders, a Symposium for Cities, Climate Change and Finance was hosted in conjunction with Carbon Expo, including - as a special feature, and new Carbon Finance-Assist initiative - the launch of a City-Twinning and Peer-Learning Program on Carbon Finance. The Carbon Expo 2010 will be hosted in Cologne, Germany. |
