Workshop In Progress

The “Training of Trainers: Access to Finance for Women Entrepreneurs” Program, is a new initiative that goes beyond traditional learning approaches, applying innovative pedagogical techniques in order to engage unlikely community entrepreneurs.
The primary program is the effective facilitation of trainer development, who will then work directly with female entrepreneurs. The group of trainers will offer support in the fields of business expansion, financial management skills, and business plans, supporting the development of strong relationships between the women and the Bank.

The World Bank Institute developed program training materials that employ participatory pedagogical techniques including a toolkit with a comprehensive instructors’ manual and participants’ workbook. The materials were tested through a pilot program in Tanzania with the support of Gender Entrepreneurship Markets division of the International Finance Corporation. Based on feedback from a focus group of women entrepreneurs, the toolkit was then revised and finalized. Two subsequent training of trainers workshops have been organized in Uganda (April 2008) and Senegal (January 2009).

During the four day workshops, participants learn how to design customized learning programs and training proposals. Additionally, they attend sessions on Understanding Adult Learning, Developing Interactive Learning Experiences, and sessions covering the core training material (Understanding Financial Statements, Small Business Planning: Clients, Competition and Products, Record Keeping, Understanding Financial Products and Bank's Perspective).
