Objectives

The objective of the World Bank's Investment Climate Capacity Enhancement Program is to help countries take concrete steps to improve their investment climate.  We assist in all of the principal stages of a reform program: the diagnosis of the challenges at hand, the drawing up of reforms that respond to these challenges, and the management of the resulting implementation process.

Our team is part of the Private Sector Development (PSD) programme in the World Bank Institute (WBI).

Specifically, the Investment Climate Capacity Enhancement Program’s objectives are:

  1. To familiarize clients with the importance of investment climate to growth and poverty reduction and with the approaches and methodologies used to assess a country’s investment climate;
  2. To promote new thinking, share knowledge and disseminate best practices, and to facilitate well-informed public-private policy dialogue and consensus building on investment climate issues among the various stakeholders;
  3. To build and enhance clients’ capacity in assessing their investment climate, and in formulating and implementing supportive measures to improve the business environment;
  4. To train trainers and researchers in client countries to build local capacity for policy research and future training in the area of investment climate to ensure program sustainability
  5. To provide direct implementation and capacity enhancement support to World Bank staff and client countries so as to increase the chances that diagnostics, policy advice and training will translate into concrete, tangible results for clients.
