Overview

The GDLN workshop on "Simplifying Land Transfer Procedures for Investment in Afghanistan" was held on June 6 at Kabul Distance Learning Center facility in Kabul. The workshop started-off by opening remarks by the Minister of Urban Affairs, Mr. Mohammad Pashtoon and Ludmilla Butenko from the Bank Country Office. The speakers focused on land issues currently being debated in Afghanistan, in particular on simplification of land transfer procedures in the context of private sector development and streamlining land acquisition procedures for investment climate enhancement in the country. The Q&A and discussion sessions were concentrated on how to replicate other post-conflict success stories in access to land for businesses in Afghanistan. The workshop concluded with broader understanding and consensus on needed policy reforms for land transfer for investment in Afghanistan.
