Capacity Building in Asia: the Korea Development Institute's Experiences and Lessons

Professor Jihong Kim, Associate Dean of the Korea Development Institute (KDI) School of Public Policy and Management, shared some of the lessons the KDI has learned from its 20 years of experience working on diverse knowledge exchange programs. He presented common trends and issues in Asian countries’ capacity building efforts. In conclusion, Mr. Kim discussed more effective ways of disseminating knowledge in the areas of economic and social development and suggested areas of cooperation with the Bank in assisting countries with capacity building.

Speaker Background

Dr. Jihong Kim received his PhD in business administration from the University of California-Berkeley. In 1987, he joined KDI as a research fellow participating in projects on industrial and trade policies. From 1992 to 2003, Dr. Kim was a professor in the Department of International Business at Hanyang University.  In April 2003, upon returning to KDI, Dr. Kim was responsible for KDI's International Knowledge Exchange Programs. His research has focused on economic development, international investment and trade.
