The application of knowledge — as manifested in areas such as entrepreneurship and innovation, research and development, software and product design, and in people’s education and skills levels — is now recognized to be one of the key sources of growth in the global economy. Access to and application of knowledge and innovation have become decisive factors in determining competitiveness, growth, and wealth more than ever before. In response to these challenges, governments around the world are adjusting their development strategies within a new framework in which knowledge-related policies in the areas of education, innovation and information and communication technologies (ICTs) are occupying a central place.
The conference on “Knowledge for Africa's Development: Innovation, Education, and Information and Communications Technologies" aims to enhance understanding and awareness among key African policymakers and interested stakeholders on the key issues that all African countries need to address to access and use knowledge to strengthen their competitiveness and increase their economic and social well-being.
In addition to plenary sessions, the conference will feature detailed workshops on the major pillars of the knowledge economy: Innovation, Education and Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs).
