PGP offers a wide range of programs to meet the specific needs of target countries. Each activity touches on a variety of thematic areas and may, in some cases, involve a number of countries. While many of these programs are coordinated by PGP Staff, they are all implemented in cooperation with divisions from across the World Bank Institute, as well as numerous national, regional and global partners. The PGP program has four core components - the Poverty Analysis Initiative (PAI), the Macroeconomics and Policy Assessment Skills (MPAS), the PRS Design and Implementation Initiative (PRSDI) and the Gender and Macroeconomics Initiative. These four initiatives are mutually-supportive. PAI supports the production and analysis of data necessary to make poverty diagnostics upon which institutions and policies for poverty-reduction supported by PRSDI are built. PAI in turn provides capacity-enhancement for monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of the poverty-reduction strategies whose implementation is supported by PRSDI.
PGP Main Components:
Poverty Analysis Initiative
The Poverty Analysis Initiative (PAI) aims at promoting increased use of information and analysis in poverty measurement and diagnostics, poverty monitoring, and poverty impact evaluation. The programs of this program target three groups of actors: senior policymakers, managers of information systems, and technical analysts. This multiple-target approach has been designed to ensure that the targeted audience is equipped with tools necessary to provide increased use of information and analysis. Please visit PAI for more detail on its programs and courses.
Macroeconomics and Policy Assessment Skills
The Macroeconomic and Policy Assessment Skills Group (MPAS) offers courses on Macroeconomic Management and Policy Assessment Skills Please visit MPAS for more detail on its programs and courses.
PRS Design and Implementation (PRSDI)
PRSDI aims to enhance local capacity to design and implement poverty-reduction strategies. Please visit the PRS Design and Implementation to see what products are offered under PRSDI.
Gender Courses
Due to the growing demand for incorporating gender into poverty analysis, the Poverty and Growth Program’s Gender and Macroeconomics Initiative offers three branches of learning programs throughout the year. Please visit the Gender and Macroeconomics Initiative to read more about its branches.
Special Initiatives
PGP also functions as an umbrella to coordinate the design and delivery of a cohesive, demand-driven, capacity-enhancing program in a country context. To achieve this goal, PGP works with WBI's Fiscal and Decentralization, Trade, Governance, and Rural Development Programs.
