In order to promote economic development, good governance and gender equality, the need has been recognized for the increased parliamentary involvement in poverty reduction, anti-corruption, and mainstreaming gender to the development agenda. As a result, WBI has initiated and supported number of activities in those fields and seeks to build on the obtained results to provide Memebers of Paliaments and other stakeholders with the necessary knowledge and leadership to fulfill such a role. WBI has been collaborating with various organizations (CPA, IPU, UNDP) to help parliamentarians provide leadership in advancing gender issues in political and decision-making processes.
The seminar was organized by the WBI in partnership with the Parliament of Finland with the aim of addressing the issues of parliamentary leadership in the areas of political leadership of women, anti-corruption, poverty reduction, and parliamentary administration. The purposes of this seminar were to: (i) exchange experiences and good practices of women’s participation in processes of decision-making, (ii) increase the understanding of the intersections between conflict, poverty reduction and development, and (iii) address ways to tackle corruption.
