Water Governance in a Political Economy

This 5-day course (in English) will address Integrated Regional Water Management (IWRM) under old and new paradigms of "water in the political economy." This includes emerging challenges related to climate adaptation, virtual water trade, water economics, pricing and tariffs, new thinking in agricultural water development, environmental management, governance at local, regional, national and international levels.

In addition, this course will offer specific elective components in water negotiations, conflict prevention and water diplomacy for those dealing with trans-boundary water resources management.

Participants are expected to bring challenges from their respective organizations to be treated as a case for group work. In other words, we will applyknowledge and skills obtained during the course to make a root cause analysis of the performance gaps and develop a real-world strategy to take back to theorganization.

The course is specifically designed for:

  • Executives from local, provincial and national water resources planning and management organizations, inter-state or international river basin organizations, public-political institutions (e.g. political leaders, council members, etc.) private companies (consulting firms, contractors, operators, media companies);
  • Managers of departments of large water management agencies and authorities in client-countries of the World Bank and other Multilateral Agencies;
  • Leaders (with a professional background) of Civic Society organizations.
