E-Waterexpo: Water and Society (1)

Water and Society (1)
August 5, 2008

Mankind is deeply connected to water through daily rituals and customs—both practical and spiritual. Yet societies are increasingly divorced from the source of their connection to water. In many cities, we simply turn on the tap, and as if by magic, water appears (or does not appear).

The Water Tribune dedicated four sessions to a closer examination of the values at the core of our communities and how these values influence societies relationships with water. It is believed that by understanding how the current values relate to the absence, presence or creation of a life-sustaining civilization, we may accelerate learning and prioritize interventions that support a global sustainable approach to water management.

A wide variety of stakeholders—individuals of every age, institutions, organizations—from different sectors around to globe attended the four regional GDLN-based sessions to share their views and formulate recommendations for inclusion into the Zaragoza Charter.
