Water Program

“When the well is dry, we know the worth of water. ”
— Benjamin Franklin, (1706-1790), Poor Richard's Almanac, 1746

We can contain it, divert it, collect it, purify it, package it, transform it and transport it. The one thing we can’t do efficiently is manufacture water, which makes managing it an imperative.

One of our greatest challenges, as water evolves from solely a resource question into a social, economic and political issue is determining how we do this efficiently. We believe the solutions flow naturally from collaboration – yours and the World Bank Institute’s.

While we all have a role to play in managing our world’s most precious resource, WBI believes water management professionals serve a crucial, irreplaceable role. We’re here to connect you to ideas, information, professional organizations, and most importantly, to each other.

Our programs focus on several key aspects of water management in a political economy, such as the enabling environments and governance, policies, systems and infrastructure, the organizational and human resources capacity, including learning and knowledge management. WBI’s Water Program implements activities in the following areas:

  • Water for People
  • Water for Nature
  • Water for Food

Our programs are designed to stimulate dialogue, spark debate, and inspire significant breakthroughs and transformation. We hope you’ll come back often to participate in a thriving global water community as an active player and agent of change.
