CSO Consultations for India Country Strategy 2009-2012

Consultations with civil society for the formulation of the Bank’s new India Country Strategy for FY 2009-2012 were held in Mumbai and Hyderabad on April 2 and 3, 2008. The Bank’s then India Country Director, Ms Isabel Guerrero, led the Bank team.

These consultations followed on from the Thematic Consultations held in New Delhi in August - September 2007 where it was recommended that further consultations should be held in the states to allow for wider CSO participation.

Ms Guerrero began the proceedings in both cities with a brief presentation that outlined the stage at which the Bank Strategy consultations were then poised, as well as the path forward. She highlighted the three themes emerging from the country’s 11th Five Year Plan and from the series of thematic consultations held by the Bank last year. She sought the participants’ views on the topics and welcomed new suggestions.

Proposed Key Themes of the new India Country Strategy

Ms. Guerrero explained that the World Bank is proposing to adopt the following guiding principles while developing the Country Strategy for 2009-12:
