IR-NORTHERN CITIES WATER SUPPLY & SANITATION PROJECT 
 
The Northern Cities Water Supply and Sanitation Project will enhance the quality of life in the four northern cities of Rasht, Anzali, Sari and Babol, and will improve the operational efficiency and financial sustainability of the Water and Wastewater Companies (WWCs). The project consist of the following 10 components: component 1) will extend and improve Rasht's collection network. Component 2) will improve the service provision in Rasht through regulating the pressure and availability of water in the distribution network, as well as reduction in losses due to leakage. Component 3) will extend and improve Anzali's collection network. Component 4) will rehabilitate and extend Anzali's water distribution network with 155 km of primary and secondary distribution network. Component 5) will provide technical assistance, training and consultant services for institutional development and environmental management plan, Technical Support Unit (TSU), engineering design and construction supervision. Component 6) includes construction of a wastewater collection and treatment system in Sari. Component 7) will extend and rehabilitate Sari's distribution network. Component 8) will include: (i) the provision of 16,300 new house connections, (ii) the construction of approximately 130 km of laterals, interceptors, and trunk mains, and (iii) 6 pump and lift stations. Component 9) includes: (i) the construction of a 20,000 m3 ground reservoir and pumping station, (ii) the replacement of 40 km of existing pipe mains, (iii) extension of the network with an additional 32 km of mains, and (iv) some 125 km of lateral pipes and 4,500 water metes. Component 10) will provide technical assistance, training and consultant services for institutional development, technical support, engineering design and construction supervision.**
