The development objective of the Wildlife Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Project for Sierra Leone is to improve capacity development among all stakeholder groups for a sustainable protected area (PA) system management, wildlife resources protection and conservation of biological diversity within the country. The environmental assessment (EA) document evaluated environmental impacts and proposes measures to mitigate them. The report makes recommendations listed in the EA in the areas of : drainage conditions of site (site topography, infiltration and capacity of soil); erosion already taking lace on site; watercourse in the surroundings of site; surface water; impacts on climate, topography, land stability, surface and ground water, air quality, on aquatic ecology, farmlands, loss of vegetation. Additionally, the EA includes mitigation measures on loss of monuments / historical sites; health, safety and hygiene procedures for construction workers to follow; promote capacity building workshops and training programs on environmental baseline assessment to all participants in project implementation; and finally, applicability of Sierra Leone's laws and regulations, existing environmental frameworks, the Environmental Protection Act of 200, and Bank's safeguards policies on the environment, cultural heritage and resettlement of displaced peoples.
